Rathgar & Rathmines – Friends of Kyuso

Published on May 5, 2022

Rathgar Parish has been in partnership with Kyuso, a parish in the Kitui diocese in Kenya, since 2007. Kyuso is a wonderfully vibrant and committed community, however it faces significant challenges, brought about by underlying poverty and worsening drought.

Over the years the people of Rathgar parish raised over €330,000 in funds, built a Catholic primary school for 500 children, with two dormitories and canteen facilities. They funded a long-term goats’ project targeted at the most needy women of all faiths, as well as funding shallow water wells in the community.

In a really positive development, Fr Andrew as Parish Priest of both Rathmines and Rathgar, is highly supportive of this partnership and would like Rathmines Parish to get involved going forward to boost how we help Kyuso and to give us all an opportunity to demonstrate our Christianity and humanity in action.

Today with climate change, Kyuso urgently needs funds for a borehole well that can go deeper to access scarce water. They also need funds to continue the women’s goats project.

Our target is to raise €35,000 before end 2023 to fund these.

We will be doing a Church gate collection in Rathmines and Rathgar Churches on May 28th and 29th and will hold a concert in Rathgar Church on 18th November. We would love your support. You can donate anytime by leaving a contribution in the envelopes in the church or lodging directly into the “Friends of Kyuso” account, AIB Rathgar, sort code: 93-10-71, account no: 35707124.
